Sex as worshipping all of life through the body

I’ve been reading a wonderful book, the Translucent Revolution – How people just like you are waking up and changing the world. It is by Arjuna Ardagh.

“Transluscents” are people who have had a spiritual awakening, and have been informed and transformed by it. Transluscents come from all walks of life, and from everywhere around the globe. They are awake to something Deep, something Spiritual that is within and between all people… and all of creation.

Here is a quote from Chapter 8: Overflowing Fullness: Translucent Sex.

“Out of the thousands of translucents I have spoken with in researching this book, virtually no one practiced or advocated celibacy, but almost all were interested in letting their sexuality become a vibrant expression of wakefulness. Translucents are in their bodies, open and sexual. Both through the impact of awakening, as well as through specific practices, sex is transformed from a desire-driven impulse for release and the alleviation of loneliness into an art form, a way of worshipping all life through the body.”

1. When sex is “a desire-driven impulse for release and the alleviation of loneliness” then it is focused on the self. It is egocentric in its intent, and egocentric in its action. It is about “me.” This is screwing, or getting laid… not making love.

2. The “release” is usually from the anxiety that the person is experiencing. I make much of the role of anxiety in a sexual relationship. The more anxiety, the less love there is. When we are afraid, we aren’t loving. Love casts out fear; fear casts out love.

3. If sex is about the alleviation of loneliness, it can work wonderfully. Really intimate sex, the kind where two people look each other in the eyes while making love, can go very far toward bridging the gap. But, wonderful as it is, there is a still more excellent way.

4. When someone is awake to the indwelling presence of the Divine within and between, sex can become something very different. Extraordinarily different. Instead of doing it one-to-one, sex becomes an act of celebration. The Life that is within and between is released in love, and the Giver of Life is thrilled with the celebration!
